about

All proceeds from the sales of this recording will go to an organization suggested by Andy, Black Lives Matter (blacklivesmatter.com), which "was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives."

These 7 pieces are solo improvisations taken from two live concerts, both recorded in Amsterdam in De Ruimte and in OCCII. Both sets were one continuous piece and I haven't removed any of the music from either set, but divided them into separate tracks at points that seemed to me like natural endings during the performance. The song titles are mostly taken from a book I’m reading at the moment called “Surveillance Capitalism” by Shoshana Zuboff. A terrifying and exciting read that has shaken up my ideas about convenience at the expense of privacy and where this is taking us.

In both performances ...I use no pedals except a small pre-amp to boost the low end and slightly saturate the sound. I'm not purist about pedals ..I mention it because there are thousands of insane weird pedals out there but I never found one that sounded as good the guitar itself through an amp …so any effects you hear on these recordings come from objects I use on the strings and fretboard. There is one track called Marta named after the incredible singer Sebestyen Marta, whose voice you hear singing coming from a cassette through the speaker of a walkman played through my pick up. Hope you enjoy !!!! - Andy Moor

Thanks to Catalytic and Sam Clapp for offering and helping to put this out ..also to Ken Vandermark for all the work and enthusiasm he has put into this amazing label distribution operation…and who gave me a lot of positive input after the release of my first solo CD Marker. Tim Sprangers and Valentina Campora for encouraging me to play solo. Arnold De Boer for inviting me to play solo at the OCCII. Also Yannis Kyriakides who taught me about space and timing, Anne James Chaton about focus, Terrie Ex about tension and explosion, and John Butcher about turning corners and listening, Isabelle Vigier who has always worked so incredibly hard on all our Unsounds releases and always full of ideas, and The Ex and Dog Faced Hermans, who shaped my whole musical world.
